About Us

Founded in 1995 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Allen & Newman, PLLC is a defense Firm where the client takes top priority. Due to the evolving legal environment, Founding Member David Allen left a large insurance defense Firm with a vision and desire to start a more forward-thinking and progressive practice with a focus on efficiency and excellence in legal representation. Following our early success, what was originally established as a "boutique" firm, specializing in the defense of workers' compensation claims, soon began to evolve.

Clients began seeking representation throughout Tennessee and soon it became clear, based on business volume, that additional offices would be needed to effectively and efficiently handle the growing client base. We opened our Nasvhille, TN office in August 1999, and during this same time, our client base continued to expand, as did the mix and variety of incoming business.

Our Firm began to add additional staff and attorneys, seeking qualified, experienced counsel whose client-centered goals and work ethics matched those of the Firm. We also began to expand our representation to include all civil litigation. Attorneys were hired strictly based on expertise in the handling of various types of business, and our Firm also implemented a program to electronically link all of our offices and to provide electronic communication capabilities to all of our valued clients.

In early 2000, our Firm was approached about the possibility of representing several clients outside of Tennessee, which prompted the opening of offices in Atlanta, GA and Orlando, FL. Soon, continued growth spurred the opening of an additional Florida office in Ft. Lauderdale in May 2004. Increased growth prompted us to open a Kentucky office in Lexington, in September 2003, and in July of 2005, the Firm expanded into South Carolina, opening offices in both Columbia and on Hilton Head Island.

In April 2006, our Firm expanded into Mississippi with the opening of our Jackson office, and established our North Carolina presence with the opening of a Charlotte office in December 2006. In August 2007, our Firm began representing clients in Alabama, and Alabama representation was further expanded in August 2009, with the acquisition of the Birmingham firm of McGarrah & Davenport. In May of 2011, we acquired the Birmingham, AL firm of McDaniel, Bains & Norris, doubling our presence in the State.

In April 2012, we opened our first Midwestern office, in Chicago, IL, allowing representation across the state, and most recently, September 2014 brought the opening of our Indianapolis, IN office following the acquisition of The Sweetin Law Group, P.C.. Allen & Newman, PLLC now represents clients in all counties throughout Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, allowing our clients to limit their counsel over a wide geographic area.

The Firm produces reference materials on a number of subjects, which are updated yearly and provided free of charge to our clients. The Firm maintains a website for client updates, publishes a biannual newsletter updating case law and statutory changes in all of our states, and provides free on-site seminars, upon request, to clients. Continuing Education credits are available in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, and North Carolina.

Allen & Newman, PLLC has been recognized by A.M. Best as one of its recommended Defense Firms and our Firm was also invited to become one of the original members of the Claims & Litigation Management Alliance, formerly the Council on Litigation Management and the Council on Ethical Billing, which requires nomination and approval.

We're not just your attorneys; we're Allen & Newman: Your Defense Partners.
