Social Security Administration Proposal

March 11, 2015

A proposal by the Social Security Administration would shift the burden of reporting whether a claimant is receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits to states, local governments, and private insurers. The SSA currently relies on beneficiaries to report whether they are receiving workers' compensation or public disability benefits. The SSA looks to use the information to reduce Social Security benefits through an offset, if the beneficiary is concurrently receiving workers' compensation benefits. The amount of the offset varies in each state.
